This series of large self-portrait inspired drawings began as a study of facial expressions causing emotions rather than the reverse. Having an interest in birds I started making large birds out of scraps of other drawings lying around the studio. As I began to see how these two bodies of work were interacting with each other I saw how the birds were using the human portraits as something useful. A bird house, a perch, some place to eat....
